which headstuds break first?
I'm curious which studs break most commonly or break first. I know, exhaust studs are the breakers, but I want to know of the 12 bottom studs if there is a certain stud or studs that statistically break first.
Like, the absolute rear most studs, closest to the back of the car or the studs on the right or on the left or in the front etc... |

On mine it was the bottom right on #6 and lower left on #1.

MIne is the forward exhaust on number 4.

I've heard #5 exhaust is most common but it looks random to me.
Sounds like a good topic for a poll. I'd be more curious to see if driver's or passenger side has the most offenders. |
Interesting.
I had (1) go at around 80K. #6 lower right. This stud seems to be exposed to the under-car environment more than others. It broke right in the area where it's relatively unprotected, so corrosion was the likely reason for failure. |
#5 lower left at 17K! Replaced all of them anyway. All looked like new, even the one which broke. It was one of the painted ones too. I guess it's possible they missed a spot which corroded and broke.
Seems like most of these are happening on the non-cat side of the car. I wonder if the additional heat on the cat side insures that these dry out and are less prone to corrosion breakage. |
