Engine Help Please?
Hey guys,
First off I must say I don't post very often, but I do spend hours reading and analyzing other posts so I would like to thank you all for all the great info. However, I've done several searches on this and found many posts but I'm still confused. My car - 1978 SC with euro 3.0 ,fresh 4 yrs ago. My Problem - I'm getting blue smoke out the exhaust while idling. This unfortunately seems to happen almost always while sitting at a red light and never in my own garage idling. Why is this, its like my car enjoys embarassing me. I'm not sure if it smokes while I'm decelerating approaching a stop - I've looked just through the side mirror but nothing is visible. I've heard - Rings or valve guides/seals I've talked to the only Porsche mechanic in this area and he tells me it CAN'T be the valve guides. Is this true? I was having a slight hesitation in the past with the car and that turned out to be two plugs saturated with oil. I replaced the plugs almost 4-5 months ago and have been frequently checking them to find no signs of saturation like before. Car runs strong as ever. I apologize for making this so lengthy but I would like to get to the bottom of this annoyance. Thanks for any advice. ___________ Kurt 78 SC ![]() |

Kurt,
I do not know very much, but I'm voting for the valve guides and seals. What is the oil level on your vehicle? I keep mine at the half-way mark because it will smoke slightly on start-up if I fill it more.
