CV joint replacement

I noticed that one of my CV joints in in need of replacement. Should they be replaced in pairs?

Are you replacing just the joint or the whole shaft?

It is not necessary to replace both shafts at the same time. However - you will usually find that is one is about to die, the other isn't far behind.

If the driveshaft is off the car I would do them both, as the wear will be similar on both.
This is why I did all mine, but believe it or not this did not make any noise.

Wow Julian I have never seen that before.

Emarsh, if your time is free, you can just replace the one that's bad and plan to replace the other at some point in the future when it too goes bad. No harm done.

You can also also swap CVs from side to side, so they run the other direction. This allows you to get a lot more life out of them.

Just put in a couple of new axles. That's most pain free and very affordable through PP. I wouldn't start messing with a single CV joint. If it is gone, others will be close to the same. To me it's like putting a single brake pad on your car. :D

I'm a believer in the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" theory. I would go as far as to clean and repack the CVs, but there is no sense in replacing something that isn't worn out.
