California's New Roadside Smog Sniffing Pilot Program

Could be a problem, I'd imagine, even for pre-75 cars that are smog exempt, and other years that later become exempt, I'd imagine.

Because even if you are exempt from the testing, you aren't exempt from the smog laws.

Yeah...

Seen the vans parked on the on-ramps. I just put it into neutral and coast past :-) (or turn the engine off and coast past...even better idea)

"On a recent morning, a red Volkswagen van from the 1960s, a Chevy pickup from the late 1950s and a late-model Cadillac Catera were among the stream of vehicles that sped by the white van parked on the side of the street in Rialto. Emissions from most of those vehicles fell in the normal ranges."

So it shouldn't be a problem for our smog exempt 75 and earlier cars either.

Cheers,

Joe

I agree with Tony, coast past. But I'm not worried. I think the smog dogs will be favorably impressed when they get a sniff of the stock 86' 3.2 in my 69 911.

Impressed? I doubt they'd even bat an eye.

I hope you are all aware that it takes only one bill to pass, and all cars of the era we own aren't smog exempt any more. On a yearly basis, the exising law is in danger of being turned over. You may go back to the fixed 73 date but even worse things may happen.

How many people likely have a gross polluter if they passed smog less than two years ago? Most cars I see on the road around here are less than 10 years old. I doubt they go foul in less than 2 years...

I just wish, instead of trying to catch people between bi-annual smog checks, the govt. would do something to convince people that 100 mile commutes and 15mpg gas guzzlers are unattractive.
If I look at the local public transportation in the SF bay, I am not surprised that everyone is still on the road. Extending existing public transportation is "too expensive". And this in a nation where it took a how long to build a railroad across the entire country?
