Cool Fuel Pump Question.....

Just bought and installed a new fuel pump on my '80 SC. The pump design appears to have evolved so that the fuel pressure check valve is built into the neck of the pump. I assume that if the check valve fails, the entire pump must be replaced. Am I correct in my analysis or does the check valve mount into the fuel system elswhere?

The "long neck" pumps have them built into the pump. Up through '77 I believe. Your '80 should have a "short neck" and a threaded in check valve that screws into the end and attaches to the bango fitting. Hope this helps.

Cool Fuel Pump Evolution....

The pump that I took off the car was a long neck design, but a different part number than the new pump. They look identical, just different part numbers. After doing some checking around, it seems that Bosch may have standardized on the long neck design. Maybe not a bad idea as it eliminates a potential leak location.

Thanks,

The check valve is a week point in the pump. If you have a chance go with the external so you can change it out if it goes bad and not have to replace the whole pump.
