Clutch problem

While driving home from work this evening, I noticed my clutch engaging closer to the floor. Before I even got it out of the parking lot, I almost stalled it. When I put it into first at a stop sign, it grinded pretty bad. After I got going, I completely lost all ability to shift into gears. If i try, it grinds bad.

Now that I think about it, the grab point of the clutch has been getting close to the floor all day!!!

Any ideas??

Thanks

Sounds like your cable is about to go...
Also could be the clutch release lever that rides on the through out bearing.

also check the roll-pin that attaches the pedal to it's shaft. it can shear partially and get worse over time, until it finally goes all the way.

Thanks John! Earlier I noticed something that sounded like the helper spring contacting the SSI when I let the clutch out. It never did that before. I am going to check the cable now and see if that is it....

Damn John! You were right on the money. Thanks! Now I can sleep easier knowing it is nothing serious. The only worry I have now is how many miles did I grind off of my gears

I guess I need to order the entire shaft?

Ok I found the roll pin for a buck. Is that all I need? Of course I didn't take the cluster out but the pedal was rotating about the shaft where the pin is.

Also, I assume I need to take the cluster out.

Once again thanks!

The same thing happen to me today! Every time i tried to put the car into gear it kept grinding, so i took the floor board out so that the pedal had more room. The more i kept driving, the more the pedal kept going down, until it stayed down.

I am replacing the pin with a hardened bolt and lock nut. I have to wait to drive again until i get a new clutch pedal spring that broke when i tried to take the pedal assembly out.

a cheap hardware store roll pin will not last very long. they don't have the multiple rolls that the factory pin has. it can be done in the car, but it's not particularly easy.

I got my car back together tonight. Everything works like it should. I saw on a post from Leland about reinstalling the helper spring...I tried the JW way but the spring wouldn't slide down the rod at all... even with help. So I removed the bar. For those like me who took a good look to find where the bar is attached. The lower hole in the master cylinder is where to look for the rod bolt. You will see a large bolt , just undo the bolt and waahoo. The spring goes on easy out side of the car. Just remember to keep every thing just alittle loose untill everthing is back in the car.

I ordered the pin from our host as well as a few other things. I am in the middle of removing the cluster when I got stuck on the darn bar...... I did a search on it and saw a post by JW that says " do not remove the bar from the cluster" He recommended that is should be removed from where it attaches to the MC... I am going to attempt that tonight.

Should be back on the road before too long
