Question Help! gear box "peeing oil"

Just finished a 3.0/915 trans installation in a 69E. I serviced the gearbox to about 1/2 inch below the filler plug. After a 10 minute drive I have gearbox oil spewing out the top of the transmission most likely from, the vent. Why is this happening??? There were no static leaks while the car sat in the garage. I also jacked up the car and let the GB spin along in 5th gear at idle and saw no leaks. But after driving the car I leave a nice trail of swepco up the driveway into the garage. What the */-/ % is going on you guys?

Point the vent hole towards the tail of the transmission (the front of the car).

Wow, that is pretty strange! The vent hole must be facing in the right direction? Exellent! I thought I was about to pull out the tranny for some major failure!!! Thanks for the info Pelicanites!

I concur on the vent hole facing wrong way. Oh and you didn't fill the gearbox up all the way. It should be at a level where tranny fluid is just running over the lower threads of the fill hole.

Was the car on its side Just kidding, once the vent points into the right direction you should be fine.

Question Oh no! now what??

As I said last night, the GB was serviced a little below the fill port. Today I checked the vent hole orientation and found it not pointing exactly straight ahead so I corrected this. Then I drove it again and GB oil STILL "pees" out. If I let it "pee away" do you suppose the GB will find its own level?? This is whacked!! What do I do now ?? Do I need to drive with an "ecology collector can" strapped to the side of the tranny!!??

Are you certain it's leaking from the vent hole? If your mainshaft seal is torn, it will spray fluid on your clutch, then sling out through the clutch inspection holes at both the top and bottom of the case.
