Oxygen Sensor Question??

I destroyed the 02 Sensor on removal and I thought I'd just replace it. Then I looked at the price 200.00 for the 84-85. The 02 sensor for the newer 86-89 is quite a bit less. Are they interchangeable or does it make any sense to find a low mileage unit. Any advice appreciated!

You can also use the Mustang Bosch sensor, or any other generic sensor with the 18mm thread. Heated version is ~$50. Soldering/splicing required.

Craig, Do a search as there are alternatives that have been discussed many times here.

You can also go to this link and check for the generic Bosch part numbers. Pehaps discover a cross-compatibility.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the info! Being a rookie DIY'er, could you explain that. A Ford Mustang? What year etc. ? Do I just get any 02 Sensor that will fit? Help!

Rick M,

Thanks for the link, I don't think I understand the thing enough yet and I'll take your advise and search.

Craig,

Pelican lists the sensor @ $79. Part # PEL-SW85-2438.

The Bosch site does show a different OE # for the 84-85 vs 86-89 Carreras. However, the Bosch generic replacement (Bosch# 15735) is the same. This is the one Pelican is most likely providing.

I've got a box from one at home if you need more information tonight - it's probably the same one Rick listed. PM me if want me to doublecheck.

Use the generic one. Cut the connector of your old one, solder it to the new one with some heat shrink, and you're good to go!
