my new interior mods.

New interior mods funded by taking cash draws from purser then going to 7-11 for money orders
RSA door panels installed while baby was feeding. Installation took two feedings. Right side door panel suffered a 5 beer extra cutout for the pwr window switch that doesn't exist on that side. Covered it up with the crest from my keychain and some emblem glue.

Wheel and gear knob installed while wife and baby on 3mi walk. She walks every day so this took two days. I was slowed down alot cause I had to keep running out to the end of the driveway to see if she was coming.

She's never been in the P-car so she won't be the wiser and funds were totaly laundered as mentioned above. Who da man???

Looks good, too bad about the extra power window cutout, but you recovered nicely.

you could always put another power window switch in the extra cut out and have it control some other thing you purchased with the baby food money

Too funny.
"Honey, I'll be right back. Going to 7-11 for a slurpee. Do you need anything?"

Covert action with no paper trails, I love it. The mods look great!

I do the same thing.

My wife gets 12 weeks vacation a year vs. my two weeks and takes the kids to Florida. Her stall of the garage is barely cold before the flatbed pulls up to take my car in for major service or upgrades. The DIY stuff gets done after 9pm when she and the kids go to bed. Funds used are in a paypal account from when I sold off all the mods on my Audi S4.

In her mind the car is as stock as when I bought it.

I feel dirty.....and I like it.

I guess I'm lucky. My wife loves the my 911 and just says okay when I give her the invoices for parts. She even noticed that I buy a lot from Pelican. She did flinch when I told her I was buying an airplane.

LOL, For me it started by hiding minibikes, BB guns and go Karts from my parents....right up to Motorcyles, cars, tools from my wife.

Perhaps an identical crest on the driiver's door will make a good match.

The car's looking good. I've known my wife since high school (some 40 years ago) and she was a gearhead.....still is. Fortunately, I've never had a problem over the years in sitting her down and getting her approval on my next "project idea." She drives a Saab Viggen, but wants a weekend car of....ready for this....a 1958 pink Ford Thunderbird.

Ray,

Very Nice! I wonder how much weight your car shaved on those RS door panels... I like the red and yellow logo! I like the quality and supple feel of that steering wheel too last time I sat in your driver's seat at Jenro's.

Now...what's next???? Slippery slope isn't it??

S4drifter, you crack me up. I was laughing just as hard at your reply. Sounds like we operate the same way. You have to have the mind of a criminal.

Next will ba a dash and Wevo shifter, then some exhaust and a chip. That pretty much takes care of the must do list. I guess then it'l be stuff that my brother talks me into.

That's funny. You can also tell her the new purchase will be funded by the sale of the old "original & valuable" parts. Then hide the old stuff in the attic for a rainy day.

I recently snuck a set of Al Reed polished Fuchs on the Carrera, hid the payments in the business account.

Wife (suspicously): Your car looks different.

Me (semi-disinterested): Yeah, I washed and waxed it and polished the wheels.

Wife (proud for having noticed and thinking no $$$ were involved): Looks good!

Me (diverting to new topic): Thanks. Where are we going for dinner?

I'm glad to see we all play the game... My latest purchase (the SC) was hush for two days, as I tried to figure all the angles of justification... The main justifying reason was it was minus the sunroof... therefore "rare"... Her reply... You could have found one of those anytime.

Anyway, I use paypal to sell and buy stuff... I'm usually upsidedown but oh well!!!

Interior looks great BTW... I kinda like the Porsche emblem "fix" it works...

You Guys crack me up! Door panels look great BTW

"Luckily" my wife has a bit of a habit....Pets. A bulldog, 3 cats, 2 rabbits and misc. visitors she purchases for the kids, supposedly. They cause so much more noticable havoc and hassle and expense on a daily basis that I always have an abundance of funds in the emotional bank account. Should have enough for that efi conversion soon

Cool Amatuers.....

ANYBODY can hide some parts from a wife, maybe even large cash draws. BUT, it takes a real professional to get the wife to volunteer to pay for those new parts. If I need some new gizmo for the 911, I start very subtly by walking around the house and sighing occasionally. Then I will take a bunch of old slightly greasy parts and put them on the garage floor in a location where I know she will have to step over them. They stay there for at least a couple of days during which time, I drive the other car. At some point she will ask me why I am not driving the Porsche and with a big HUNNNNNN type sigh I explain that the high speed muffler bearings are shot and that I spent all of my hobby money on an anniversary gift (this is where you have to be creative) or whatever and that it will be weeks before I can scrape up the money to put the Porsche back on the road. She will usually go off and after a while, come back and ask how much the new high speed muffler bearings are going to cost? I give her an estimate (list price plus 10% plus shipping plus, plus, plus, etc) and she usually will say something like " Well, you helped me with this and such and since you are such a wonderful husband, will you let me buy the parts you need? Now this is where it gets tricky. You can't say yes too quickly or she will smell a rat. So then I go thru the "thanks, dear, but that's way too much money for the little favors that I have done for you for the last 25 years....." at which point she will insist that I take the money right then and go order the parts. The best part is that when the new stuff comes to the house, I don't have to hide the parts or the fact that I am working on the car.
