Question Rear Stabilizer Mount

My left side mount broke, I am trying to find out if the new 1/8" thick mounts that I am fabricating are going to be too thick? I am going to do both sides. I never really looked really close at the factory mounts, they are paper thin, 14 or 16 gauge? Maybe thinner metal than that. What I am really trying to find out if the thicher mount material would cause any problems? The right side is Ok, I will be adapting it also, but I am not going to cut the old mounts off, I will be adding the new material to the side and the face and mig it all in. It will then have the thickness of the factory mount plus the 1/8" steel. Does anyone know if this would pose a problem with the action of the bar or anything else? Thanks.

The thickness of the new steel should not be a problem and in fact is recommended. I've repaired mine twice. Once, the mount tore in the middle and the second time the bolts pulled right through the metal. I've added bracketing and reinforced the bolt area since then. Anything you can add will help. Here is a pic of the bracket that comes off the torsion bar tube of 1/4 steel. The triangulated mount is now much stiffer and the added metal ends right where the bolt are. I'd suggest the same if you are going to weld there anyway.

That is something like I was going to do. Hopefully, I will get to work on it this week. I am helping a friend replace all the front susp. parts on his, struts, upper mounts, tie rods, steering rack, ball joints, etc. I was under that one when I took a breather and was just laying there when I looked across my garage at mine and saw the broken mount and the bar hanging. I scooted over to it and looked, the flat where the bolts go thru it just seperated from the rest of the mount. I will certainly be beefing it up. I was just concerned if there was any problem with adding metal to the face side, instead of the underside of the mount. It would change the mounting surface of the bar by at least 1/8" lower from the underside of the car from its present location. I have some 1/8" and 1/4" stock that I will be using. Thanks for the pic.
