Sound pad blanket

Well my sound pad has become a blanket for my CIS, I can't seem to get the clips to hold it up and after every drive it is draped over the CIS system. Is there anyway to fix without and engine drop?

Can this be a problem in the meantime, does it "insulate" the engine at all, hold in heat, etc?

Now that the weather is getting warmer my car does drive around 10-15 degrees warmer then early spring and fall driving...any connection?

Adam

Frankly when mine sagged down in 1984 or 85 or so I just ripped it out and never looked back.
Seems like those blankets just rot and disintegrate to dust over time anyway.
Theres probably people who remove them to save weight as well.

You can fix it with a partial drop, but that is only if you can either reglue it or find a way to fabricate thin bands to hold it up. Neither is very successful.

You are best to just carefully tear it away. Do this by putting a thin sheet of plastic or cotten between the engine and pad as best you can, cut away, and then remove the pad with the bits.

I replaced mine with the engine out and used plenty of glue. I believe it is best to have one in there esp. if you drive long distance.

may be able to get a few more months out of it if you just hose down the mating area with 3M spray sticky stuff - forget the name/# of it.

The new pads weigh very little if you plan to redo it.

Cool, thanks for the advice. Any thoughts on potential issues of having it resting like it is on top of the engine?

If I go the cut it out till the next drop route is it really noisy? Like overpowering a stereo noisy?

I doubt if it will be more noisy than it is right now - they don't work well once the interior foam disintegrates. A new one will be quieter.

Don't let it lay on the engine while driving.

Also, the foam debris may get sucked into the air filter.

Mine was in the same condition. I ripped it out for the short term, used a 2" plastic scraper to get the loose stuff cleaned up and then shop-vac'ed the engine. I replaced mine without dropping the engine a few weeks later. A bit of a knucklscraper, but doable. It cleans up the engine bay nicely, and knocks just a bit of the high frequency twang.
