Hi,
I have a very dumb question ![]() Trying to re-attach the clutch cable/helper spring/release arm to the transmission but is totally lost... a) The clutch pedal dropped completely to the floor after the cable was disconnected, should I bring it back up (& tie it to somewhere to make it stay) before connected the cable to the release arm? b) The factory manual said to install the helper spring & the release arm then push it to rear of car until it passes "TDC for the spring". How far back do I need to push this arm? c) When time comes to attach the cable to the arm, should I expect to have to apply TONS of pressure to get it "hooked onto" the release arm? Thanks... P.S. Just in case anyone woners - my classic mistake of not taking any BEFORE pictures & with 2 helper helping to drop the engine/tranny 4 months ago, the whole thing is a blur now ![]()

Yes, you have to pry the big arm against the pressure of the horseshoe spring, until the spring goes 'over the top' and pops the long arm back (I think against the exhaust crossover pipe, but not sure. Anyway, you need to do this. Large screwdriver. Then, you create the 1.1mm (or whatever the spec is) gap against the set screw in the small arm. Then place a block of wood behind the pedal and hook the other end of the cable onto its home under the engine/tranny. Then adjust the cable so that the gap reduces to 1mm (or whatever the spec is. I cannot remember).

If I recall, there's a technical article posted about this; I believe there are photos in it.
The main thing is that: --You put the spring on the post on which it pivots. --Using a big screwdriver (I think I levered against the front of the transaxle housing), you push the middle of the spring so that the end on the pivot rotates on the post, and the other end snaps into place. --You do NOT, as I did the first time I tried to do it, pry the end of the spring into place.

Thanks for the tips Superman & Rsiegel.
Another related question - 101 projects & the tech article mentioned about removing the trunion pin to lossen the pedal end of the cable, but how do I do that? Do I start by prying the clip, as shown in red in the picture, open then down? Thanks again.
