Porsche Crest What kind of potential do these motors have?

like on a early 80's SC 3.0, or an ealryer 2.7 or even the later 3.2...

what kind of potential power wise do they have non turbo?

what kind turbo? (keep my name in mind )

Naturally Aspirated:

2.7 ~ 230HP
3.0 ~ 250HP
3.2 ~ 280HP

Budget: (Keeping your name in mind) Forget it.

Buy a Subaru.

I hear you.

But getting HP from these things is not cheap. Also, it will not add any additional class.

I bet you could go even higher, but it would take cubic bucks, and you would end up with a full race motor.

What sort of 911 are you planning on doing this to? Either way it will cost MEGA $ just for the Turbo motor on it's own. (Factor in ~$20,000 for a good one).

Then there will be conversion kit costs and mandatory brake and suspension upgrades.

And here's the best part:

The car will probably be worth less than when it was standard.

So what kind of power can you get with the 3.0 by changing to '74 exhaust and what can you do with the intake system? I'd like to get another 20 to 30 HP but I don't want to alter the stock intake system too much.

If you want the most power from the least expensive platform then get a '78 or '79 turbo. You should be able to get one for ~$25-30K. Those only came with hp in the mid 200's, around 250, I think, but they fuel systems are the Euro fuel systems and can relatively easily support 400-450 hp, so you can then upgrade the motor without having to upgrade the fuel system. I think that for $15-20K over the price of the car you could have about 400+hp. That's probably your cheapest bet for power out of a 911. If you want cheaper power from a Porsche that's not a 911 then you can get a 944 turbo for about $15K and then for a few grand I think you can again be at about 400+hp.

Or if you want to go the other route, you can buy an early chassis that's rust free, but not pretty for somewhere between $5-10K, and then drop another $15K into it to put a late model 3.6 L engine into the thing. Then remove every part that doesn't hold the car together or make it go faster. With the weight reduction and the 274hp that you might get with a varioram engine you will have the power to weight ratio of the turbo's, but in something that feels more like a racecar because it will be a stripped down chassis with no creature comforts.

Or, you can buy a really crappy 911 and then bolt a Chevy 350 or even better ZZ430 crate motor into the thing and have a car that kills in acceleration and eats transmissions, tires, and halfshafts.

Gains from modifying induction / exhaust on a 2.7, 3.0, 3.2:

HP: 0-3 (Depending on which way the wind is blowing.)
Bling Factor: 10/10 for sound

I guess my needs are modest. I only want to get 20 to 30 more HP. Other than exhaust, what else do I need to get to the 220 HP mark?

Needcash, that would be insane and would cost twice as much money as putting in a later model 3.6L engine and probably 5 times as much money as dropping in a Chevy 350.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

About $ 5,000 - $10,000 and a good Porsche engine builder with a dyno facility.

Probably not. And he can't hear you he's too busy running.

Dude,

Relax. We are a very defensive mob when it comes to our silly little glorified Volkswagens.

A stock 911 IS a quick car in the hands of someone who knows how to drive it. They don't need mega HP. What's your budget anyhow?
