sHIFT WOES

Just finished new shift bushings & coupler & went road testing. All was fine until I did a 5th to 4th downshift. Got a reverse grind which wasn't there before the changes. Prior to ripping into this, I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.
Is this likely an adjustment issue with the coupler or have I somehow screwed with the reverse lockout? Never disassembled the shifter mechanism , just removed & replaced. I'm not even sure as to how the reverse lockout functions because I didn't really study the shifter mechanism when I had it out.
Hoping I can just do some adjustments at the coupler.
Suggestions? Sage knowledge?

I am still working on mine, but will be trying the process outlined in the link below. Please post anything you learn in case you get to yours, before I get to mine.

keep trying to adjust it I had the same problem
I think it was a matter of coupler front to back adjustment.

Take coupler housing off and adjust coupler just a little more (turn it a tad). When I mean a tad, I mean a tad! Take for a drive and see where your at. Usually it will take a few adjustments to get right.

Same thing happened to me. I did the install of all the bushings, I even marked the coupler so I could have some idea where it used to be. First time on the highway, grinded gears 5 to 4. Ouch. I was pretty pissed. The next day I turned the coupler a tad and I haven't grinded since. It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

One thing to note is that the set screws (at least on my early 901) dug a small dip in each of the shafts, so if it was misaligned before, it will tend to stay that way.
The front ball mechanism only lets the shift rod move so far so it has to be balanced to the coupler.
Difficult to discribe, but do mark where it is now and adjust by millimeters. It'll make a big difference.
