Oil pressure light not working

Ever since I bought my car the oil pressure light has not worked. This past weekend I decided to install a Big Red Oil Light and see if I could get the new light to work. No dice, so it is not a bulb issue. To complicate things, the wires behind the gauge have been modified. There are wires spliced into the red wires that run to the oil pressure light. In-line with these new wires is a 10amp fuse. I have no idea where these wires are running off to or what the previous owner was trying to do.

I'm not sure I care about what the extra wires are, but I do want a working oil pressure light. How do I go about trouble shooting this?

Do what I did. I got a new length or wire, hooked one end directly to the oil pressure switch and the other end directly to the guage. It worked then, so I knew that my sender was fine and it was a wiring problem. The oil pressure switch to the guage should be green with white. The harnesses get old over time and can stress crack, or you could have a bad connection at the rear fuse panel. The wiring diagram shows a straight connection between the switch and the guage, so I just ran that new wire back to the guage.

My gauge had two greeen and white wires piggy backed on a spade connector and two red wires piggy backed on a spade connector. Why are there two of each color?

Where exactly is the sending unit? My druck press works OK. Is there a different sender that signals low pressure versus the sender that operates the druck press section of the same gauge? Any pictures to help an electrical idiot?

There are the 2 indicators. One that sends the signal to the oil pressure guage that reads the actual pressure, and a separate switch that send the signal to the warning light. The oil pressure switch is the one that lights up the green warning light on the guage. That is the one that you would wire to your new big warning light. Those are the green and white piggybacked wires. One of those wires also is a brake warning light.

The oil pressure switch is on the back of the engine, next to the wall, behind everything possible. It is a bear to get to. I took out my heater blower and, since I have CIS, the airbox cover and boot and reached it without a problem. The switch has a male contact at the top. (It looks like a regular bolt with a red cap and a brass male connector sticking out the top.) You may need to change it if you use a wire to guage bypass and it still doesn't work. It is an inexpensive part that our host sells. I just did all of this a couple of weeks ago so I feel your pain.

Sorry, no pictures though.
