I recently got a quote to perform a top end reseal and top end rebuild for a 78 930 turbo and was quoted quite a high number.
-removal -tear down -carrera tens install -head stud install -rering -head work(do not include as this is sub-let out) -reseal -reassemble -all necessary miscellaneous bits to complete job including chain rails What is a reasonably priced job done by "professionals" interms of number of hours. One shop quoted me around 23 hours while another about 35. Whats up ???? |

23x$80=$1840, 35x$80=$2,800. The rate does not look right. A top end rebuild normally runs about $6,000 parts and labor at good 911 independent shop. I would stay away from your $2k-$3k quote. Even it's 50% off.

30 hours for a valve grind on a normally aspirated 911 is normal. a turbo takes considerably more time. add rings and studs to that and 40 hours is about right. plus parts.
