Repaint - HELP!

Brand new 40k$ (sequoia- pls don't hold it against me...) got hit on front fender on freeway with runaway trailer hitch receiver. OK, ok, lucky the wife wasn't wearing it on her forehead, BUT..

Repaint from VERY reputable place in San Diego on a gunmetal grey (pearl grey) base came back with a "rainbow pearl" look to it. Hard to describe other than when you look at it in the sun, it reflects a "rainbow appearance" vice a "white/grey" reflection as does the rest of the car. Anybody know what the problem is with the pearl they overlaid the grey with??????

Drivin' me nuts- I'm new to paying this much for a ride with less than 5k miles on it and coming back from paint with a "lowrider" fleck. All comments appreciated- am I too anal or did they blow the overcoat????

Whatever the result is, if you're not happy with it, return it and have them fix it.

I have the same color on my tundra quad cab . the only way to get it to match pearl is to respray entire piece . or take it to toyota and not accept it till exact . phantom grey pearl has been described as almost impossible to match . My body guy doing my 911 looked at it and said he was glad he has not had the pleasure of trying to match one yet . and he is an awesome painter .

Send an e-mail to KevinP73 here on the board. He's the resident paint expert and I'm sure can give you some guidance.

Thanks for the referral- zapped him an email.

I can race my 911 on the track for years and never have an incident yet take a new car out on the highway and I now get to live with a repaint and all its idiosyncrosies... (Like a new door ding courtesy of the paint shop, a driver's door pull that now clicks when it opens, 3 clear coat scratches from the yard rat who washed it....).

That stuff is all unacceptable, bring it back! Be polite, (which I'm sure you are by your tone here), but be firm. As in, things are "right" or they're not. End of story.

Remind me never to buy a new car in one of those colors.
