fender mods-just asking

So the question is- since my 71T fenders are in need of some new sheet metal welded in, I'm considering taking the horn grills out of the picture and welding in a patch- Any down side?

Can't they be used for cooling of some sort?

I guess that's the question. I'm not sure they serve any purpose other than for their stated name. It mat be difficult to patch the area and have it look right anyway but just wondered if anyone has done it.

Here's a shot of my mod w/ the horn grill. I took it a step further and blanked the turn signals too.

Replaced the porsche headlight/bucket w/ a headlight off of a mini cooper.
