Well, crap, hit and run help

Yea, found the guy, but he ruined my car. Happened today, don't know how much insurance is gonna shell out.

Need opinions on what to do if it is totalled... Rebuild it? Or too much work?

Press charges. These SOBs usually get away with it when the H&R. Make sure he doesn't. Find out from a Porsche body shop if the tub is bent, if not... I'd say fix her up.

Yeah that is my problem, who knows what will show up when they see if it's straight. with such an impact, it could have buckled a few things. If that is the case, it's goin to the yard....keeping the engine, it's unscathed and running great

That guy deserves to be thrashed to within an inch of his life.

Whoever did this, obviously couldn't care less about your (beautiful) ride. Take him for everything you can, press for criminal charges; destruction of private property, failure to report an accident/leaving the scene of an accident and sue him not only for the damage to your car, but for the devaluation of it as a direct result of his recklessness, time off the road, lost wages etc etc etc etc..... you get the idea.

Things like this don't just happen by accident in the street. The guy must be stupid and doesn't belong behind the wheel.

I bet that is totally repairable, the question is will the insurance company choose to do it, or is itcheaper for them to write it off. No matter what happens I would keep the car. You can either part it out or consider getting it straightened if needed ( bet it is fine though) and put some nice fiberglass back there. Who knows, this may be just the ticket to free you from the need to keep it stock, and now you can build a RSR or something.

I suggest you start by gettting the minimal work done to get it back on the road so you can continue to drive it as you work on it.

Have fun with the opportunity handed to you.

Hmmm... a good SC engine? How's the transmission? What about the interior?

I've got an '80 SC with a bad motor, "unknown" transmission, and "ratty" interior.

Is This Motor Rebuildable?

I've pretty much realized I don't have the time to work on it and will (should) probably sell it as it sits, but when I see "potential parts" I start thinking...

Please tell more. I want to hear what this guy did and how you caught him. Sounds like he needs some nightstick rash.

Were you in the car at the time? If so, is there even the sligest bruise or rash that you had? If so, that will give the cops enough to really fo after the guy.

Press charges and stay on it. I pressed charges on the woman that hit my truck and ran but since I could not place her behind the wheel of the car only ID the car, the insurance and the state let her go, free of charges! I'm still burning mad about that!!!!

Well first of all I'd like to thank you all for your comments. I have been busy with the insurance company, they think it will be repairable and are towing it to their shop soon, to take a closer look.

So for those of you who wanted more information:
I was in the car driving down a four lane road turning left into a major parking lot. He was turning left out of the parking lot and never even looked. As I was about half way through the turn I hear his engine rev up and I yell at him, but too late. The had already caught me in the rear drivers side (see pics), spun me around and kept going. Due to the fact that he 'pushed' me out of the way by spinning me, he was able to continue on his merry way. Well I was going to chase him to get his plate number, but if you didn't notice the poor thing was yanked. Even if I had been able to catch up to him, I wouldn't have been able to stop because I was leaking brake fluid. Thank god I didn't take off after him, I would have blown through the busiest street in town. Well, I got out of the car and went to the people that were behind him in line to turn and they were very unhelpful. They wouldn't give me their names, said they didn't have a phone #, blah, blah, very standoffish. I thought this was suspicious, so I took down their plate # without them knowing. I let them take off and went to the next guy, who saw the accident (that's a nice word for it) but didn't get a plate. In fact out of him and 3 workers on a nearby worksite, no one got a plate #. Interestingly enough, it didn't even matter, because it ended up that the people behind him in line were his friends, in fact one of them was his girlfriend. So, even before the police had investigated that plate #, the girlfriend had turned his stupid ass in. Turns out the guy is wanted on 2 felonies, has been in chases with the police before. Pretty much the guy is in deep shize, I definately won't sue, but will press charges. Get it done and forget about it..........easier said than done, car will never be the same.

competentone: VERY strong 3 liter, was actually going to have a tune-up on thursday....... Was rebuilt about 15,000m ago. It runs beautifully, even after taking a hit. (The damage to the car did not reach the engine bay).

Thanks for the update and response--but (reluctantly) I've concluded I just don't have the time for the project right now. I'll be posting pictures of my '80 SC with the bad motor on the "For Sale" forum this weekend (I'll be asking $4400). I'll give a heads-up to whoever ends up buying it, that you might have a motor if the insurance company determines the car is totaled.

Thanks,

--Joe

Sorry for your loss, Flyby, but it has resulted in a great public service. This guy is going away to be some con's girlfriend instead of casuing more damage.

Well, hopefully this just means upgrade.

It sucks about the accident, but at least you were unhurt, and you seem to have a good attitude about it.
