use a bit of energy and complain to your Senator and Repr. We need outlaw this and get a strong law in -- they are considering bills right now.

Yeah, but a lot of it originates overseas, where U.S. laws don't apply...

Just downloaded and ran adaware -- roughly 1700 suspicious files quarantined and terminated.

Thanks for the advice.

I just did the same thing with Ad aware. Had a bunch of files terminated. I surfed Pelican again and got another pop up  I'm not sure what's up with that.

The bazooka spyware program is also excellent, and detects a number of programs the others don't. It's available free from www.download.com

Sundaypunch:
1) Run ad-aware again and see if there is more spyware there.
2) Restart the computer
3) Have you checked your virus software updates lately?

Anti SpyWare programs are great but not fool proof. From a recent article....

"While cleaning out a friend's computer, he discovered a spyware file holding 3GB of information.

"Anti-spyware in the machine can appear to work properly, and then in the background there's this file, three gigs of information stored away, just sitting there," Gilroy said."

Condoms and "the pill" aren't 100% effective either, however, the abstinence choice, in either case, just isn't acceptable. ;)

The spyware/adware/malware detection is just like virus detection. As soon as the companies put out updates to detect and delete current spyware, a whole bunch of new ones come out. So it is really up to the consumer to become educated about these threats and how to keep their computers up to date and protected.
