Gas tank to pan seal

Could someone tell me how to (where to) place the seal(s)?
TIA

I just pulled mine. I have not inspected it closely yet, but I believe the seals should seat all around the underside of the lip of the tank. What are you replacing yours with. I was going to just find some type of weatherstripping when I put the tank back in.

Get the black 1/2" high density self stick weatherstrip from your local hardware store. Works just fine and looks the same as what comes from the factory.

The seal is a roll of self stick closed cell foam 1"/1/2". I didn't think about paying attention to the position of the seal when I pulled the tank out to be refurbished..I assume it goes under the lip. However, when you get around by the battery box the flat surface goes away, and it appears that maybe a piece goes on top of the lower flat section below the front of the tank, and maybe over the area above the fuel pump?

i used the same stuff. looking back, it may be easier to stick the stuff on the car and not the tank. either way, i didnt give it much thought, it is pretty much all under the lip.

I just ran it around the opening, when I got to the area that didn't have a flat, I just followed the top edge of the opening.

I've never seen the high density closed cell foam tape like the Porsche stuff in a hardware store. If I didn't use the OEM seal, I'd make sure the replacement is very close to OEM, since you could get major water leak into the compartment.
