Help Please...Exhaust Is Blowing Flames
It's a 1969 E.... Motor is supposed to be a 2.4 built to "S".
We changed the plug wires and plugs. The plugs were gaped for a 2.4 stock E MFI. Not sure if that could make a difference. Anyway the exhaust is throughing flames and it sounds like it's not runng on six. Also we noticed the coil was jumping spark from ground point to coil plug in from dizzy contact. We did advance the dizzy a little. Any Ideas to clear this up. Thanks In Advance K.T. 1973 911 E 2.4 MFI 1965 DEVIN - 1965 912 Power Plant |

Well if you are not firing on all 6 cylinders you might possibly get flames out the exhaust from the unburned fuel from the dead cylinder. Set your spark gap to start with at .028". Reset the timing to factory specs and find out which cylinder(s) are not getting spark by pulling each plug wire, see if the idle drops, then plug it back in and go to the next plug wire.

Thanks Kurt. Will give this a try. We just picked this car up in Lawrence Kansas. No one else even called or looked at it. Kinda picked it up cheap too. We pulled the webbers off cause they were seeping gas and installed fairly new PMO's.
So thats what were trying to get tunned in. Ran fine with the leaking carbs. K.T. 1973 911E 2.4 MFI 1965 DEVIN - 1967 912 Power Plant |

Wires are crossed. Double check. It's easy to switch two. Ask me how I know.

Thanks for posting the pictures Doc. OK we will double check
the firing order too. Thanks ZEKE. This car had the lucky spark plug wrench Early- S - Man described and boy is it nice to use. Has the 915 upgrade too. |

Robert My Brother bought the car. But don't tell his wife.
We have it hidden in my garage. Will shoot some more pictures on progress. She would flip if she knew. Did I mention it has new floor and "S" calipers up front. Good rubber. Sorry about the spelling. K.T. |

Ok.....Last night checked the plugs... wires and set timing.
Flames are gone. Now cylinders two and five are dead. Found they are not getting fuel. Who can educate me on PMO's. How do I start over adjusting them. Made the mistake of letting Chris Wells jack with them when he said he "Knows all about them" Now they are totally out of wack. Thanks K.T. |

I am laughing my butt off about the 'wife doesn't know' routine.
Was staying with one of my best friends on a short term project in Charlotte for several weeks. Best friend had to go to Dallas for a few days. I was flying pretty much every day out of CLT. Friend calls me and says "I've bought the Corvette of my dreams in Dallas. I am having it shipped there to the house; could you get it into the garage and cover the delivery with a story to keep her under control until I get back?" Sure I can! 2 days later the car arrives. Cherry 1967 fastback with factory air. I tell his wife it is my car, and I need to put it in the garage for a week or so. She comments that her husband is going to be SOOOOO jealous, he has always wanted one just like that. I am leaving the next day on a trip, and won't be home for a week. He is arriving late tomorrow afternoon. I tell her that I REALLY don't want him driving my new car until I get back and we can do it together. She needs to hide the keys where he won't find them, and no matter what he says, DO NOT LET him drive my car. He will tell you ANYTHING to get the keys. She agrees, and promises not to fall for anything he says. Of course, you know what happened. I was unreachable, and he didn't drive his car until I got back. By that time the wife was starting to believe the story that he had actually bought it, and he wasn't really in that much trouble because she was laughing so hard, she couldn't be mad. I think several years later he has forgiven me.

Wow, I'd pay extra for a car that shot flames out the back!
