WEVO Battery Box Installed

Pretty easy installation, following the directions supplied by Hayden as well as the battery location tech article that has been referenced on this board in the past. There was only one tricky part - I had trouble getting the battery to fit into the box. It is a VERY tight fit and required perfect placement and more than a little bit of force.

I ran main power cable up through the driver footwell and into the smugglers box via a new hole that was created by the removal of the AC system. The auxillary power cables were long enough to reach the battery in a direct line if I kept them in the front trunk so I chose not to extend the cables and run them along the same path. You can see this in the picture. This is a track car that never carries luggage so I saw no reason not to take a little short cut.

I like it.

Nice!

Very nice! I just picked up the Rennline battery box. I plan to install it next weekend and will fire up some pictures to compare & contrast the different options available.

I didnt see the Rennline box at their web site - do you know where we can look at it?

Looks great. Pelicanite Tyson Schmidt has the Wevo box in scruffy, and he's done a cool mod to incorporate a kill switch into it.

I bought it at the Hershey Swap meet, and they said it was a brand new product. I didn't see it on their website, either. I'll assemble mine sometime this week and take some pictures. Otherwise, I don't know where you can see it. It is aluminum with circular holes on the top plate.

Rob,
update us after you do the install. I picked one up at Hershey as well (along with the front tow hooks). I am swamped in some other work so I look forward to you finding out how it goes.

How much did they cost?

Here's a thread on the components with pics..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/151698-wevo-battery-box.html?highlight=box

What is the advantage of relocating the battery to the smuggler's box? I know many do it. Does it just center the weight a little more?

RickM 05-03-2004 09:01 AM

Centered weight and consolidation from two batteries to one in older cars.

Ditto! I'd like to compare the prices of the two.

I don't know the "retail" price of the Rennline box. They said everything at the show was at least 30% off list. It was somewhat of an impulse buy, as I didn't plan on buying a "professional" battery box solution, but it was just so shiny! I paid $150 at the show, and the rep said he thought retail would be $2XX.

I'll try to remember to take pictures of the pieces tonight, but it is not a complete enclosed body like the Wevo unit. Rather, it essentially makes a cage around the battery. It was designed for one of the Optimas (a smaller one, but I don't remember the model), but it is fully adjustable and I will adapt it to the Odyssey battery.
