911 Ac

I parked my 911 for about a month, then the AC stop blowing cold air. It worked fine before that. What is the most likely cause?

If your car has original hoses, then what's probably happened is that the freon (R12 or R134) leaked out. Do a search here on the board for "barrier hoses" and you'll find dozens of threads discussing them.

If you don't want to replace the hoses, and your car has already been converted to R134, your local Autozone will have a DIY kit for recharging the system. Read the instructions, and BE VERY CAREFUL.

Post back here if you have more questions. Good luck.

Yep, sounds like you've got a leak, could be the hoses, a schader valve, o-ring. Before you replace the hoses you may want to check the valves and o-rings, much cheaper and easier to replace.

Is the blower working or is the air that coming out from the blower hot?

If the blower is not working check the fuse and relays including the one in the smuggler box.

If the blower is working, but the air is hot, check to see if the compressor is engaging.

If the compressor is engaging, you are probably low on freon.

Thanks for all your response. The compressor is engaging and there were two big puddles of water on either side of the car after I return from a 12 mile loop. I've always thought that there a pressure sensor in the system to prevent compressor from engaging, if the freon is low. I'll check the hoses and connections. I hope the compressor is not damaged.

The water would indicate that the system is working since the humid air is being dehumidified by the evaporator. Perhaps the coil is freezing up. Can you tell if the compressor is cycling on and off?

I couldn't tell if the compressor was cycling on and off while I was driving. However, with the engine idling on the driveway, I could hear the compressor running when I switched on the AC. It did not cycle on and off during the 2-3 minutes period but the air wasn't cold coming out of the vents.

Can you post the temperature of the outside air and the temperature of the air coming out from the vent?

Park the car in the shade when you do the test.

Your system may be working, but not working at full capacity. In that case, you are probably low on freon.
