Is Fabspeed built by Flowmaster?

I thought I had read somewhere that the 1 in 2 out Fabspeed muffler for a 911 (3.0/3.2) was made by Flowmaster. If this is true is the only difference the stainless construction, all the interior designs are the same? I loved the sound of my gutted cat with 1 in 2 out Flowmaster but the drone at cruising speed was a little annoying. I was considering the Fabspeed but if I am to expect the same resonance I might as well spend $$hundreds less for the Flowmaster. Other than the resonance the Flowmaster has an intoxicating growl!

The new muffler is for my new(to me) 87 Carrera to be picked up this weekend!!

Thanks
Scott

I belive you are correct but it's probably more appropriate to say that Fabspeed uses Flowmaster mufflers in their construction.

I do not believe so, but you can email Joe Fabiani via there www.fabspeed.com website and ask. They use the "maxflow"
name and it's my understanding that they do all of their own manufacturing here in Central PA.

Steve

I had one on my 3.2 and the drone was unbearable.

Yikes the secret is out!

I have the FS 1/2 and it doesn't bother me at all...at any speed. I even like it when the car alarms around me go off...

had that happen tonight, just waited till it shut off and revved it again. I enjoy Fabspeed 2/1.

I had a Flowmaster 1/2 on my 3.2 with an intact cat and there was no drone at any point.

I think it's only the 2-outlet models that drone.

I just installed a 2/2, and it has some drone from 2000-2800 rpm. It's almost entirely reduced if I cap one side. I suspect that changing the pipes before the inlet or after the outlet might change the 'drone zone.'

It's much less annoying than the resonating drone from my old B&B, tough.

I have a 1 in 2 out on my 85 Carrera. It is LOUD but there's no drone at all.

My post is worded wrong. I meant that maybe it's only the 2-inlet models that drone.

Jack,

Which particular or model # Flowmaster are you using?

I currently have a 1/1 Bursch using the Dynomax Turbo #17733 muffler, I am going to build a new muffler system myself, set on 2/2 muffler, just undecided on which brand muffler.

I want a muffler that would be louder than my current, any suggestions?

Jack Olsen 05-04-2004 04:45 PM

Flowmaster is rhaspy, gutteral, and pretty loud. I've got a 2/2 80-series, I think.

rbcsaver 05-04-2004 05:45 PM

My B&B, dual in and out w/same B&B headers Drones (resonates) awful at 2400-2800 RPM .
regards,
