Need some quick help - WGI Damage
Hi all,
My friend Than spun his 84 911 in to the armco after the apex of turn five at Watkins Glen today and is looking for some assistance. The car is driveable for short distance but the front right wheel is toed in way too much as a result of the impact. Impact was the whole right side of the car with the right front taking the worst of it. Other than body panels being damaged the toe in seems to be the only problem. He is looking for a Porsche shop within one-two hours of WGI that could inspect the right front, possibly replace a bent strut or fix a tie rod and do a quick alignment to get him home (NJ area). Any suggestions for shops in the WGI area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help. Keith |
Horseheads NY is about 15 miles from WGI, and there is a small shop called Esprit Motorsports right next to the airport.
Lee is the owner, the number is 739-7794, not sure of the area code. This is a small shop, he may not even have an alignment rack but he's super cool and willing to help. |
Thanks Tod, It sounds like some good help may be very close by. I'll pass it on.

any creative wrench can do a drivable toe adjustment.

Thanks Ronin. He is going to take a crack at it with some of the guys at the track but is lining up alternatives in case he finds something beyond his abilities to fix.

Thanks to all - Lee from Esprit Motorsports was very helpful and Than is on the road heading home.

Update:
- First and foremost I wanted to thank Todd and Keith for their help. With Lee's contact information at Esprit Motorsports I was able to get my car on the road and drove it home Tuesday, - I spoke with Lee first thing Tuesday morning and he was not able to do an alignment on my car, but he recommended another local Tire Shop that could. Unfortunately they did not answer their phone. When I explained to Lee that I just need to adjust the toe in on my front wheels, he took the time to explain how to measure, adjust and put in an amount that would allow me to drive home. Lee spent over an hour on the phone with me with no benefit to himself. - If you are going to Watkins Glen to drive your car, take his contact information. He is an able and knowledgeable mechanic with a can-do attitude. - He is in Horseheads NY which is about 15 miles from WGI. His number is 607-739-7794. - Lee specializes in Electrical issues, carbeurators, and fuel injection, but he is willing and able to do more. Than Orens |
Is Porsche his specialty or does he work on other Marques?
|
Going to WGI in June. Just jotted down the contact. Thanks.

He owns a 911, and works on his own car. He is starting out and appears to be very knowledgeable about the 911.
I was most impressed with his desire to help regardless of the benefit to him. Than |
