Apply, then release brake = moaning from wheel.

I am getting what I assume must be a sticking caliper puck but want to check with you guys.

Rebuilt calipers, new pads, fresh lines (stainless), new rotors all about 1.5 years ago. New wheel bearings as well.

Recently, every so often, I bring the car to a stop and, after releasing the brake, as the car moves forward I get a moaning for a bit then it goes away.

Stuck caliper? Wheel bearing problem? I will have the car on jacks shortly for a susp. rebuild and can tackle any problems then. If it is the caliper, I am considering just exercising the puck in the body of the caliper and trading 'pads around to see if I can find a new "set" for the puck.

Whatdoyouthink? Much appreciated,
John

Sounds like the caliper is hanging up on something. I can stop and then let the car creep forward with the brakes on very lightly and get the same noise.

You know, now that I think about it, I wonder if the MC has anything to do with this? Recent post that Warren replied to suggested my dying brake switches may have something to do with a deteriorating cup and seal set in the MC.

NAPTOWNSPEEDY: You haven't replied to me about the MC...

Does it come from one side? Sounds like a brake caliper sticking to me. If it's both not releasing - then MC

Do you get pulsating when you brake? - cause that sure is an indicator of a warped rotor...

Is the sound an harmonic out of round sound. Noted after a warm up period?

No pulsing, *seems* to come from the right front only, and is a moan with very little tonal quality to it.

Unsure on the warm versus cold though. I think I'll take the car out and experiment with that now ;>

I found this thread in doing a search on this subject. My recent symptoms ("moaning") are exactly as described, however my brakes are still at about 50%.

Any further comments on this topic?

Whether the pads are worn all of the way down, 50%, or nearly new, a hanging caliper will do this.

Mine used to do it when warm because things heated up and expanded causing the situation to come up. After that happening from time to time I eventually had one nearly completely lock up while my wife was driving. She parked the car. When I went to get it several hours later things had cooled down and I was able to drive it home. When I pulled the calipers the problem side was quite stuck and definitely needed a rebuild which fixed the problem.
