Likes to be driven
 

How often should a car be driven? I have always heard that Porsches "like to be driven" and start to have problems if left unused. Does that mean you should drive your car at once a week or month? Does it make difference on the year of the Porsche.

I drive mine as often as possible (warm and dry weather) and the car seems to run better when it's driven daily.

A minimum of once a week. Many report oil leaks that rectify themselves when the seals are resaturated (typically the return tubes). That is just one example. Add to the mechanical aspects the fact that the car runs better because the driver is more attuned to differences in sounds, handling, and the like since time has not elapsed and memory faded from the last outing.

Rain or shine, drive the car. They do benefit from exercise.

I have even heard reports of scratches dissappearing, carpets cleaning themselves, torn seats mending, alignments improving, displacments getting bigger, syncros getting better, and in the rare case, the driver gets younger.

Absolutely! I've had two 911s and both had sat for some time prior to my acquisition. First drives in both were sketchy but the more I drove the first one the better it ran and it did "seal" and leak a LOT less.

Now on my second I can see the same thing happening. Also, it had several different drips of oil at first but now only 2 places. I try to drive mine 2-3 times per week.

As often as humanly possible, and it's best if you drive it for at least 30min to an hour minimum, preferably with some freeway time, or, at least, with the speeds up a bit.

Yeah... my 77 definitely runs much better now that it did when I first bought it almost a year ago. And... I've driven it every day since then (and I mean, every day) :)

I don't drive it in the Northeast during most of the winter. Especially this last one! I'd rather be fixing leaks than repairing rust holes or doing paint work.

The engine does feel better after a long "spirited" drive.
