Should this be replaced?
I think I know the answer to this already...... After jacking the car up, and picked all the loose spray on undercoating that the previous owner cleverly used to hide any damages around the car, I found a good amount of rust & a hole through the bottom of this rear suspension piece. I have never taken one of these apart yet, so I dont know the dynamics of it yet... but is this just a cover, or does it actually take on stress & it should be replaced immediately? Sorry for the crummy picture. TIA for any advice. -John

It does house a load bearing bushing but the top section is the pressure point so I would say that it should be replaced soon but its not a life or death issue yet.

Maybe it's just the picture, but the whole area looks suspect to me and it appears there may even be some questionable repair work. No telling what you will find when you remove that cover. Don't want to sound negative, but a lot of times we really do only see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to rust.

I am going to try & take it apart early this week. Post a better pic of what I find. Up to this point, the PO left me plenty of hidden surprises, I can only hope that this is minor.

Looks like the perfect opportunity to upgrade to adjustable spring plates, fresh bushings, and 26mm T-bars.

I wish I had the funds for such an upgrade..... As you can see from the better picture below, I will be replacing it. Fortunately there wasn't any other suspicious rot in the area. Does anyone on this thread have one kicking around? Thanks, -John
