Anyone use Kennedy Engineering G50 Pressure plates?

I am in the process of replacing my clutch and would like to use something better than the boat anchor that Porsche chose to use( the pressure plate weighs 25lbs.!!!). I see that Kennedy makes one and I wonder if anyone has any experience with these? Thanks in advance!

Cheers, James

James, I don't have any experience with there G50 product. I do know that they make some great stuff at reasonable prices. And they are very helpful

James,

I had a KEP billet PP on my 89 G50 3.2 Carrera. It's important to do the fork update to ensure smooth pedal travel because the PP provides a stiffer pedal (about 20%). I liked it very much...felt like it meant business. It weighs about 12 lbs less than the stock PP also.

Be careful about clutch choice to go with it. I went with a Centerforce clutch from PMS. I liked it but it is not a friendly clutch in stop and go traffic. Sort of an on or off arrangement. You can get some clutch chatter if you're too gentle with the accelerator when taking off. Once I got used to it, it was fine. I've since removed the engine and clutch which was sold to another Pelican (Don911) who recently got it installed in his car. His early impressions were very positive on the pedal feel (PP), but the jury was still out on the clutch disc. I believe the alternative is a 930 disc that is a little more user friendly. You may want to PM Don to get his latest impressions.

Good luck.

Mike, Thanks for the info! If you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge for the pressure plate(pm me if that's Ok with you). Also, was it a direct bolt on? Can I use the standard clutch disk with this? This will be used on my Club Racing car so quick starts are good for me!

Cheers, James

KEP gave me a price of about $1100 for a clutch kit for my 79 930. It would have a 3200 lb aluminum billet pp and a stock 930 clutch disk. They said it should handle 400 hp easily.

As Mike said, you can get some clutch chatter if you're too gentle with the accel. I'm still getting used to it but I like it so far. I'm not in stop and go traffic very much though. For daily driving, the KEP with the OEM 930 clutch may be more friendly but for your club racing application, I think the KEP with the centerforce will work very well. It puts the power down.

James,

Just noticed that this is for an E prepared car. Centerforce would be an excellent choice for track use...no question. Honestly, I don't recall the price (my feeble memory is leaning toward about $700 for the PP and 3 or 4 for the clutch, TO bearing, etc). Call Patrick Motorsports...at least they can give you a quote (assuming our host can't get this for you). Yes, it was a direct bolt-on.

Are there any issues with the Kennedy Engineering PP for a G50 Carrera such as unusually stiff pedal or rapid de-celleration causing sudden stalling?

Likewise, does the light weight PP noticeably improve the car's performance given that it removes about 12 pounds of rotating mass?

Thanks

I have had mine in for a few months now. It works very well. The only difference I noticed was a slightly heavier pedal and a bit of a different clutch point. Nothing drastic and the car is still very streetable in regard to shifting.

Cheers, James

Given the additional cost, it sounds as though the Kennedy PP would be overkill for my car which is only driven about 2,500 miles a year and in 2-3 DE's per year.

Thanks

Oh, The engine revs a bit better and it probably helped my peak hp #'s( I now have 214RWHP out of a stock Carrera motor). Pete, Do you need a new Pressure Plate? I still have my old one and it's in excellent shape.

Cheers, James
