We Need More Deer Hunters

Thanks, Bambi.

I'm just glad it didn't ramp up my hood and have a seat next to me (or in my lap).

Mark,

You ... should have had H1s or H4s with 130 Watt, or 165 Watt high beams!!!

I managed to dodge the biggest 10 or 12-point whitetail buck I have ever seen on Texas roads ... in the early hours of 8 December 2003 ... thanks to 80/100 Watt H4s on my wife's Nissan! Couple of scratches to bare metal on the passenger side rear fender, one crescent-shaped -- 8" long!!! Bambi's papa never even looked up or deviated from his gallop ... all I saw was the HUGE BROWN blur approaching from the right at high speed ... I was going about 70 mph at the time ...

I saw four deer last night, just off the side of the road. As I passed, I said thought, dang they almost went for it on me.

We don't need no stink'n H-4's (they are nice though).

I think this is indeed the excuse for H4s. Great idea. They would not have helped me in this case; I was looking over my shoulder to merge onto a highway. When I looked ahead again, she was maybe 4 feet away - at 45mph.

Now I have to deal with insurance people. There's a guy coming over today to look at the car and make a "preliminary" estimate. While I'm sure he sees wrecked cars all the time and is a professional at estimating damages, the man getting paid is the body man. *His* estimate is the one we'll work with, since I'm paying a $500 deductible anyway.

Maybe yes, maybe no and maybe maybe....

The extra light might have revealed the beastie before you turned your head away.
( If you need any more H4 rationalizations, just call! )

Hope the roccet is running well enough to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms

Yup - you need H4's and probably a RUF bumper too. Wouldn't hurt to have a .45 in the glovebox to make sure the deer can't tell her side of the story when the cops arrive. Deer are rodents! They are the enemy of all Porsche owners and and high-cost insurance states.

Is there a low-cost insurance state?

I'll see what I can do about some H4s.

Here in Saskatchewan, we have the highest deer population in NA and it's far more common to wreck on bambi than another car.
I've tried the bumper whistles and the electronic signal-warning thingies and nothing seems to help as much as a powerful set of headlights.
Consider this an invitation to anyone on this board to come hunting up here this fall. The world record typ and non-typ were taken about 50 miles west of here, in Biggar, SK.
I could go on an on about how much i hate deer, i suppose im getting into the teens with how many i've hit, but the P-car has been lucky - it's just too damn agile.

I sat on a 170mph high-speed train when it hit a 1000kg moose head on.

Not a pretty sight. Whole front was buckled in and some electronics were damaged so we had to stop at nearest station.

you were pretty lucky that was all the damage you got. those things can get nasty, we hit a deer once going 65 in a ford f350 ranch truck and the front end was no longer recognizeable. H.I.D.!!!!!

One of our aircraft that we fly actually landed on top of a deer that ran out when the pilot was about 3 feet in the air. The right propeller cut the deer three times and threw it out to the right away from the aircraft. One of the right propeller blades (which are composite) was shattered and destroyed. However, the deer never touched the aircraft! Just the propeller, but the vibration from the damage did close to $1 Million in damage!! I am just glad nobody, well except Bambi was hurt.

I must of seen those pictures or something just like it. It was posted on AutoWeek's Combustion Chamber last fall. Really a terrible sight. Plane-1, Deer-0.
