Very cool exhaust system for early car

I saw this on the link someone posted earlier about the Tour de France Auto (vintage rally). A combination of megaphones and sport muffler. Has anyone tried fabricating something like this?

That's what the ST and 911R cars used. it would be a bit of work but not hard to duplicate

I think there was an exhaust (911R) like that for sale in the classifieds a while back.

Porsche Crest

There are better pics of that race exhaust system -- in new condition in both editions Bruce Anderson's Porsche 911 Performance Handbook, though the first edition version is better.

I checked out the thread on the early 911R exhaust system and it sure is the same one. I had never focused on the 911R exhaust before. The original racing part is so ultrarare it is not surprising he got is asking price of $2200. I just thought it looked neat -- different from the standard sport muffler and since a lot of people on this board are getting into the 911R look, it might be of interest.

I love the look and sound of the megaphone exhaust and was thinking it might be a neat option if somebody was interested in making an exhaust system. I would be in for a group buy if somebody could fabricate it, although I would want it to bolt up to the existing heat exchanger outlet position. I don't think there would be a lot of people interested in removing their heater/defroster capability just to bolt on a cool muffler.

Id be interested to see the inside of that can. I would think that it is really loud.

What page in the 911 Performance Handbook?
