Window Channel and Switch Help
 

The glass to my passenger side window came off the track. I took the door panel off today to see what's up and judging by a search of previous threads and the drawings in my Bentley manual, there's supposed to be a rubber seal on the bottom of the glass that holds it into the guide rail. That isn't there, but there was a pile of rubbery felt strips in the bottom of the door. Is the part I want to order the window guide channel or what - all the names seem to say the same thing. :confused:

Part two: when removing the door panel I disconnect the switch and I can't tell which wires go where. There are 2 red, 2 blue, and 1 brown for the 5 tabs on the switch. I took a guess which blew the fuse. After replacing the fuse, the drivers window returned to normal but the switch on the driver side doesn't work; will it only work if the passenger switch is installed or did I fry something else? And what wires go where?

The "rubber seal" that you referred is part number 911.542.491.40. That assumes that you have the updated lifter (911.542.057.42) and that you have a Targa/Cab.

Window slot is what they call it. There's the pile stuff that clips on from inside and under the sill, and there's a rubber sqeegee on the top. The stuff down in your door is the pile. The rubber in the window lift arm is universal and can be obtained at any auto glass store or you can silicone the glass to the lift channel. No biggy.

Thanks for the links, exactly what I needed. I was doing a forum search on "windows" when I should have tried "wiring." My targa is pretty unmolested, so it's likely I've got the original lifter. I'll check on it all tomorrow.

Another solution is to go by an auto glass shop and see if they'll give you a tube of partially used urethane (the stuff they use to install glue-in windshields). They typically open a new tube to install a windshield and end up throwing what's leftover away. You can use it to glue the window glass into the bottom channel. I did this last year when my glass came loose. It's holding up good so far.

I managed to get the switch wired thanks to the files from 7-7, and I took the advice about going to a glass shop. When they saw how little there was to do, they offered to mount the glass and glue it in for $20 and I took the deal. Just have to remount the door panel and do some final alignment (the glass sticks out from the seal near the targa bar). Thanks to everyone for their help.
