Unhappy Fuel Starvation???

RE: '74 911 CIS

My car starts up and will run for ONLY a minute or so. It will start up again after resting for about 3 minutes and then will run again for another minute the die again. At the end of the minute of running as it is about to die, I've tried to pump the accelerator pedal without any success. The car has been sitting idle for about 3 monthes and have finally decided to use it again. Before I parked it I drove it for over 100 miles without incident. I've changed a few of the fuel lines that began leaking and will try changing the fuel filter and next the fuel pump. I've noticed that when I turn the ignition on , after removing the air cleaner, and lifting the sensor plate/operating lever of the mixture control unit, a high pitched sound ( the sound of fuel moving through) is missing. The pump sounds as if working, but does NOT change tone when the sensor plate is moved upward. I'm thinking a blocked fuel filter or a low pressure pump. Does the fuel accumulator play a part in this problem??? Those of u that have experienced such a problem and fixed it successfully, I would appreciate your comments. What is the pressure(psi) that the fuel pump is supposed to produce ???

Thanks in advance,
Hz

could be a fuel filter...typically the car will run briefly, then die as soon as the sediment in the filter gets stirred up. stop the car for a little while, it settles back and allows another start, but will then die. probbaly ought to be replaced anyway...relatively cheap part, too.

since it starts at all, sounds like it isn't the accumulator. you can diagnose this problem if it doesn't start again when hot, as the accumulator isn't maintaining pressure as it should...

pump pressure...i think is around...well, it ought to pump 750 cc's in 30 seconds or less...

whoa, in the east bay? so am i! you can PM me if you need any help. i have the CIS gauges if you want to mess with anything. i bet it is the filter too. my favorite move is to yank an injector to see how much spray i get. even wimpy spraying injectors will scream. i am laying sod tomorrow, for brownie points and probably helping ZOANAS on sunday. he is in the east bay somewhere too. i hope.
