Bench bleed new master cylinder or just use a Motive?

I did a search on this and found a few posts from Pelican technical gurus. Found some that said to bench bleed a new master cylinder and some that said just to install it and use a pressure bleeder to get all the air out.

Whats the consensus here? Bench bleed, or just install it and use a pressure bleeder?

I dont own a Motive bleeder and its been at least a week since my last Pelican order. Sounds like a good excuse to buy one

TIA

It is a good excuse to buy one. And if you use a motive, there may not be any reason to bench bleed. I think the main reason for the bench is to save on pumping and adding fluid ad infitum.

But there are two chambers to fill and you might as well get a head start. I did.

I am not sure how you would bench bleed a MC and then install it.

I used a Motive bleeder after my MC replacement, but it didn't get my pedal very firm. A combination of pumping while the motive is providing pressure worked for me. BTW, buy some relatively cheap fluid to bleed the system and once you are satisfied with pedal feel, put in the good stuff.

If you rebuilt your brakes as well, it might take a 100 miles or so before the pedal feels really firm. At least that was my case.

I bought the Motive (from Pelican)....another one of those "Why didn't I do this a long time ago?". That is the right tool for the job.
The brakes on all my cars showed improvement the first time I used it.

Bench bleed is easy and saves a lot of hassel.......of course I've never delt with the P-car brakes, but on American cars it's the way to go.
