964s still have the bling

I am fortunate to have a pretty healthy driveway right now which includes a 97 993TT that will be replacing my 04 996 NA and the 996 is not scheduled to be picked up until mid next week.

I came home Friday because the pool guys discovered a busted weld/seam in our new pool liner they were installing.

Funny thing is that out of all those cars in the driveway including two TTs, the pool guys were in awe of my red 964 cabriolet. My 964 is looking a bit wild with the RS seats, top down and the roll bar put in, but I was pretty schoked that was the car they seemed to like the best. I cranked it up for them and reved the engine a little so they could hear it (cat bypass, GHL primary no secondary = fairly loud) and they were like kids in a candy store.

Just bolsters the fact that the 911/964 lines are those of a timeless beauty.

I don't know if "poolboys" are the end all of decision making for timeless classics. Who knows, they could of been drooling over a Camero IROC if parked there.

Roll bar? You must autoX or DE it? Does the bar stiffen the chasis enough to do either? I've got a cab and been thinking maybe roll bar or getting a 911 coup or 914 to take to the track. The only reason the roll bar is a posibility is because of lack of garage space.

Anyway your 964 must be a beautiful car.

I get frequent compliments from the yard crew members on my '71 F250. Often, they deliver the ultimate compliment: wanting to know if I'll sell it to them.

Did your poolboys ask if the 964 was for sale?

What's that suposed to mean? You would br surpised how many well educated and very wealthy people take mediocre jobs or start a small new buisness just for the sake of doing something they like vs. trying to get richer from it

it's red, and a droptop... and isn't that the one with $10k worth of stereo gear in it? nice looking car. i'll take the 996... purity aside, i'm 6'3 and not light, and i need the room... i fit like crap in a power seat-equipped 'classic' 911.

on second thought i'd somehow fit in the 993TT. it's kind of like a cost/benefit graph but it's discomfort/power instead.

Pool boys was probably a bad term to use, but it was late and I was not trying to analyze it. The guys were actually older (40ish) spanish speaking individuals. They were laborers as opposed to pool cleaners as my pool is not being cleaned but is getting a new liner and general over haul as it is 10 years old.

Candidly, I would have rather them oogle over the turbos given the $$$ wrapped up in those. This is not the first time I have gotten such a response though. My mailman walked up some registered stuff a while back while I was doing something to the red car and he stated that he liked the red one best. A little suprising to me, but my heart is probably partial to the red one because it could not be easily replaced given its age and condition. Condition wise, it is closer to perfection than my new cars.

Pictures are not possible now. My CPU crashed to point of not even doing the CMOS start up or blinking the key board and mouse. I am now on an old AMD 450 driven CPU for internet connection with no photo software and etc. Hopefully it is the motherboard and not a virus as I for once bought the extended warranty that permits a same cost replacement.

A DE is coming up in the next couple of weeks. It will be my first so I cannot comment on the benefits. My wife is taking a turbo and I am taking the red car. I usually leave it out, but I needed more garage space with the new arrival. The roll bar was taking up an indoor parking space.

I'm glad you clarified that. I was worried about your logic about roll bars and garage spaces.

I think 964s are classic. A poor man's 964 is a mid year car with bumper changes. All for the better, IMHO. The newer cars are maybe just too sleek a package. Your 964 has obvious appeal.

Yeah, where are the pics of all these cars?

Hahaha, I really like how you guys sometime focus in on and try and scrutinize little written tid bits of a message like the roll bar deal and the "pool boys" terminology. I guess I should read between the lines and not try and address some things. If one feels so compelled to imply that pool guys (or pool boys as some have eloquently stated it) generally have bad taste in cars and must have same to like my 964 and I have no reason to have a roll bar in my 964 just say it rather than imply it. Its not going to hurt my feelings. I fully understand that my 964 is not for everyone, but I am very happy with it.

Zeke:

Here is a link to a nice shot of the 996 TT, 964 carbiolet, and the 996 NA. The avatar has a shot of the 996TT, 964 carbiolet, 996 NA and the Cayene.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=129960

I promise to get a nice group shot with the new old 993TT posted as soon as I get my computer issue sorted. I am reaching the point were it is difficult to even get all the car in a single shot . . . nice problem to have though.
