Okay, I give up!

I am trying to find a correct larger "Carrera" decklid emblem for '84-'89 Carreras. So far, I've only found the smaller, later version--not acceptable.

I would be truly grateful for any leads.

John, based on previous threads, not my own research, I believe the older, larger "Carrera" emblem has been discontinued.

briansc 05-10-2004 05:51 AM

Just purchased a carrera tail from a '85. On the decklid is a fairly large 'Carrera' label. I want to remove this but cant figure out how. If I can get it off in one piece it will be for sale. (no idea how much, but reasonable)

Best way is to get a piece of dental floss and slide it under the emblem and then with a sawing motion cut thru the double sided tape.

You may need a hair dryer to loosen up the adhesive before you apply the dental floss. Did this on my 993 on a cold day.

Dantilla 05-10-2004 06:53 AM

I wonder if I still have one. I removed the Carerra emblem from an '87 lid when it went on my '73.

JRISER 05-10-2004 08:24 AM

I really do not understand why they would discontinue something for such a popular car.

JRISER 05-10-2004 08:25 AM

Thanks, I'll wait to hear from everybody.

Rick Lee 05-10-2004 08:29 AM

Don't these things grow on trees on eBay?

JRISER 05-10-2004 08:44 AM

Good point. Have you seen them "unsticked?" If not, is there some product by 3M that you could use?

Rick Lee 05-10-2004 09:39 AM

If you buy a new one, it should come with adhesive and backing paper, like any decal. Otherwise, I'm sure you can use either the silicone blue goop or some 3M weatherstripping adhesive. There is a special adhesive Porsche sells for attaching the spoiler grill on 993's, but I think it's around $85 a jar. Go the 3M route. Check the German eBay site too.

John:

Isn't one listed in the catalogue I sent you? There should be. $35 I think.

Rick:

Isn't an engine drop required for a new script? :D

JRISER 05-10-2004 09:53 AM

Sorry Bro, It is the smaller, newer 993 version. They have a note about it on their site.

SRISER 05-10-2004 10:00 AM

Yeah you're right. Time to scope out evil bay.

Eric Coffey 05-10-2004 10:13 AM

I just picked up a larger Carrera emblem from Dave Aase not too long ago, so you might want to give him a call (909.677.5003). I also bought one last year from Dan Petchel, so you might try him as a well (609.298.2277).

So you're the one who is creating the shortage, huh Eric? ;)

Sam, FYI, we don't keep them under our pillows. We collect them and then throw them all in a bonfire at a secret meeting..........MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
