sunroof cable guides
With what products should I clean and lubricate my sunroof cables/rails/guides. The sunroof at this point seems like it is being jammed up by stickiness and lack of lubrication. I have to muscle it pretty good to get it to slide and the motor wont move it period.
thanks -Matt |

I think the generally accepted theory is that you should just clean the guides and reassemble without using any kind of lubricant. The main reason being that oil or grease in the guides would attract dirt/grit faster than a clean, dry guide. One way to check if you have a guide problem is to remove the cable drive gearbox and see how much effort it takes to move the sunroof. If it doesn't slide back and forth fairly easily, then there is a mechanical problem either with the cables or the tracks. It is possible that one of the guide tubes that the cables run thru could have gotten bent or crimped slightly or maybe one of the track sections isn't aligned correctly. One thing is certain. If you don't find the source of the binding, the motor, the gearbox or the cables won't last long!
