Too Much Oil?

I know this question has to have been asked before on here. but here it goes.

Monday I stopped to get gas at Sunoco. (93 octane No more 94 in Mass at least)

The car had been running for about 15-20 mins. Engine running on level filling platform I checked oil and the stick read just barely touching the lower mark. I put in a quart of mobil 1. Drove 32 highway miles to my office and checked oil level again. Now it is right spot on at the high mark on the stick. Am i running to much oil? And if i am what is the easiest way to get it out?

Thanks!

Seems to be that level should be between the two marks. If it doesn't smoke I wouldn't worry about it. You'll burn off the excess soon anyway.

If you'd like to reduce the fill amount the easiest way may be to use a tube and pull it from the tank via the filler tube....but you'll want to here from someone with more experience before trying this technique as there may be a sender in the way.
Other than that you'll have to drain the motor or tank and refill.

That's why these Fumoto Drain Valves are nice..... Fumoto Oil Drain Valves

If your engine was, at the time of checking the oil level, running (and the oil circulating through it) was "hot" i.e. at running temperature, and your car was on a level surface, then the upper mark would be considered within limits but on the high side. It is better to fill the oil to a level between the two marks on the dipstick.
But you're OK, relax and enjoy!
Unless you car seems to be smoking horribly, or oil spewing all over the place, don't try to remove any oil from the oil tank, it's not worth the trouble (in your case).

...on the other hand when feeling uncomfortable it's very easy to get it out via the filler neck. I fabricated something my self, I use about a 3 feet long plastic tube and a plastic bottle (like you use when you work out) to which I have attached the tubing, squeeze the bottle put the tube in the tank and drain as much as you like.

If the oil is at the top level you should be ok as long as your car was as hot as it is likely to get. I would recommend checking your oil when the car is really hot. As hot as it ever gets, maybe not until you've been driving at least 30 min and on warmer days, not colder days. Then if you have the appropriate amount of oil then it will be more likely to be a tad lower when it's normally running cooler instead of higher if you get stuck in traffic or something. Don't worry if the level is at the bottom of the scale, these things have a ton of oil in them, and unless you are in a road race running on slicks you won't have any problems with oil starvation.

If my math is correct, to remove 1/2 quart of oil:

fill a 37" long 1/2" inner diameter hose.

Two things:
Something went wrong with your measurement... I would guess originally you weren't at proper oil temp ( 194 degF).

If you were, then the low-to-high mark would require about 1.7 quarts.

To remove oil...it would be best to have a Fumoto brass/stainless ball valve installed instead of a drain plug on the oil tank ( 22mm). Makes it easy to remove a "smidge" of excess oil.

Too full and oil will find its way into the intake tract.

Wil,

Is the Fumoto vale for the engine case 20MM? You weren't sure in the discussion I provided the link for.

I use two valves ...a 22mm unit for the tank...and a (?) size for the sideways-mounted unit for a 3.2 engine case ( won't work for a 3.0...too low/ too vertical). I *think* it's a 20mm...but check and make sure. Fumoto or the Porsche spec books /PET can help.
