Selling my '82 SC

I have gone back and forth on selling my car a few times, but recent events in my personal life have made Porsche ownership not practical for the time being. (There is a heck of a lot of this going around lately).

An aquaintence of mine might be interested, but until I know for sure it is up for grabs. It's an '82 SC coupe in nice, but not pristine condition, original paint that looks beautiful and like new from across the street but up close it's far from perfect. No rust or accidents, mechanically very tight and fast, I am going to be crying for a while when it's gone but I know that I'll get another one. Here are some details:

-130k total miles

-books and extensive records since I've owned it, (5/2001)

-Motor rebuilt from main bearings out 12 months ago, (10k miles ago), new studs, rings, all seals, bearings, complete valve job from Competition Engineering w/ all new springs and guides, new Carrera tensioners, injectors cleaned and checked for spray pattern, new WUR, SSIs w/ Dansk "2 in/1 out", 935 rocker shaft seals, etc., etc...... A "no expense spared", professional, documented rebuild/re-seal of a 120k SC motor.

-Rebuilt 915 ltd. slip trans, the best shifting 915 I've seen in a long time. (Trans is worth ~$2200 alone).

-7&9x16 Fuchs refinished by Al Reed to stock anodised appearance w/ Yoko AVS ES100s w/ approx. 3k miles on them.

-Almost new Bilstein sports all around w/ '86 Carrera (22/21) sway bars and new bushings.

-Factory Euro Carrera brass 28 row front fender cooler, the best factory cooler, IMO. Car runs cool in hot weather.

-Alpine top-of-line CD w/ MB Quartz speakers in factory locations.

Issues:

Not many, but might be a P.I.A. to smog in CA. or other state w/o reinstalling stock exhaust and Cat. Also, the A/C compressor is missing, (I removed it), but everything else is there and in good shape AFAIK.

I would be asking $15k for the car, not sure if this is the market or not, but to equal this car you would have to buy the average $12k SC coupe and sink $10k into it. Several very experienced ass-dynos have driven it, on the street and track, (it has done a grand total of ~3 hrs. track time, all DEs), it has gotten HUGE thumbs-up from all, including Dave B. of TRE Motorsports, Otto, and Tyson Schmidt+ Jack Olsen. It is a "good one".

I might post this in the classifieds as well, but for now tech board people get first look-see.

Noooo! Sorry to hear about this Denis. I hope you can get back in the saddle again soon. I hope it's safe to assume that we'll still be seeing you here on the board and at all Porsche events, right?

Sorry to hear you have to sell. Hope you don't leave the forum too! I need all the help here I can get.

Your car is a beaut! If I was still shopping, I'd be interested. Looks like Minnesota plates in the photo....

Denis, unfortunate to hear, but priorities are priorities. Wouldn't be surprised to see you back in the game soon. Oh yeah, I believe you forgot to mention your Elgin cams in the description. I remember talking to you a long time ago and you were giving me advice on going with these over the 964s.

good luck on the sale.

Thanks for all of the responses, guys. The worst part of selling it would be missing the comraderie of you guys on this board, but I am committed to being a 911 owner for life. Just switching cars, w/ a gap in between 911s. Hopefully not too long of a gap. There is a 50/50 chance that I won't sell it now anyways, if my fortunes improve quickly it stays. Also, I will not drop the price very much, I know what it would cost to duplicate my car.

Just got back from my usual night time Mulholland drive to Laurel Canyon, down to my friend's restaurant in the canyon, had a great meal and hung out w/ cool people, then back home fast the same way. As some of you know, I worked at my local Porsche dealer back in the '80s and have driven lots of SCs and Carreras when they were new or close to new, my car is one of the best I've ever driven overall.

I also forgot a lot of stuff, like cams, turbo tie rods, brake upgrades, etc.... If anyone is really interested, I'll supply every last detail. Thanks again!

Denis: I'm very sorry about this. I know we discussed it a couple times. I hope you reconsider. Your car is gorgeous. During that time we took it down Beverly Blvd., it felt incredibly strong. However, I have a neighbor who's been pining for a 911 since he sold his '74. I told him to buy an SC, so if he's allowed (his wife's a P-car nut too) yours might be the one. I'll probably see him in the next couple of days. He knows the Pelican board, so I'll put this to his attention.

Again, I'm sorry for your decision...
