Question Trip Reset Button Breaking Odometer Gear -- Fact or Fiction?

I've long been under the impression that pushing the trip reset button while the car is in motion is most often the cause of odometer failure due to a broken/stripped gear. Today, it was suggested that this is an urban legend. What do y'all think?

Second Ron in LB.

I broke one in a my 420 years ago. I bought the 944 with it broken, and one of my FA's just did hers. She didn't believe me either. Not every time, but you are asking for it.

Fact or fiction, It's just a good general rule of thumb. Don't reset it while moving. Why chance it? Unless you are a masochist and enjoy taking things apart for the hell of it. Oh wait, that's most of us here.

Couple of years ago, I reset mine when driving. It still worked but lo and behold a few weeks later it broke. There's my testimony.

But why not be safe...

does it also have ZF limited slip? Now *that* would be an odometer...

Nah, too old for the LSD. I'd like to upgrade to the Wevo but its so spendy I may have to settle for the one Sherwood makes.
