chain tensioner question

I have just finished replacing the timing chains and chain ramps because one of them seemed to have stretched. Now that I have finished putting the chains in, the problem is still there. the idler arm is dangerously close to touching the case. what can I do about this.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1084730832.jpg

usually the new chain takes care of that. i would assume that the sprockets are all pretty worn. obviously the cam and idler sprockets are easy to replace. the intermediate shaft sprockets are not. do the 4 outer ones and see where that gets you. if the heads and case have been flycut in the past, and not reshimmed outward enough, to compensate for metal removed, that moves the cams, etc., closer to the case, slacking the chains, but usually not enough to cause what you have.

I will try to change out the sprockets, the other side seems to be perfect, this side just worries me.

As John suggests, replace the accessible stuff and see what happens. An oversize idler sprocket can get you back in the ballpark until the next teardown. Contact Ted Robinson at German Precision. He made a couple for me a few years ago.

Hey thanks. if the stock stuff does not work maybe I can buy some time with an oversize idler sprocket. thanks everyone.
