911 ignition coil
I have a 72 911s with Bosch MFI and CD. I need to replace the coil but have noted a couple of coils that stress not for use with a Bosch CD. What do I look for if I want to buy an aftermarket coil not a Bosch coil? experiences? suggestions?

If you stick with the Bosch CDI unit, you will probably have to use the Bosch coil. Or, you could switch to an MSD unit and use one of the MSD coils that are in the $30-40 price range. I recently put an MSD M6A ignition unit and matching coil on my SC for about $180.00 including shipping.

This goes against OEM recommendations, but standard Bosch blue coils work and are much cheaper than "911" coils.

Scott:
FYI,..........Bosch Blue coils were designed and intended for point-type, non CDI ignition systems. These do not have the proper impedance and turns ratio for proper output with Bosch CDI ignitions and the CDI box draws more current than necessary without delivering full output voltage. The car will run, but one doesn't get full performance when using the Bosch Blue Coil with the Bosch CDI. Its the same situation when people use MSD's ignitions with coils other than MSD ones. In short, coils are NOT all the same,......
