Update on Bodywork

I was up to Damon's last week to do some sanding. Here's your's truly in my wife beater outfit:

John of Series900 was wet sanding the hood and doors while I was there:

Notice the E-type Jag with custom fenders on the left. Wider is better.

ATTENTION: Did you really mean it when you said you wanted to help? :D

Hi everyone,
Damon is trying to finish up his part of the project and some of the things he needs are at Jane's (about 2 hour drive south of Damon).

We need someone with a truck to transport the interior up from Jane's in Acton (?) Mass to Sunapee NH in the next few days.

Jane will be away after this weekend and busy on Sunday so that leaves Thursday, Friday or Saturday (Sept 9- 11).
Please PM me or post back as soon as possible.
thanks,
Chris

Good work, guys. I wish I could have Damon fix the paint damage I just created.

Hald 09-08-2004 12:15 PM

you have PM

ART C. 09-08-2004 06:17 PM

Has anyone signed up to transport the interior up to Damon's shop yet? I may be able to make the run in my S15. Possible scenario- pick up parts Friday AM, and bring up to Sunnapee Sat evening.
Chris, when I saw your picture in the wife beating shirt, I realized that the white 71e behind you with the hood (propped) up is MINE! Damon put in a front suspension pan for me, and I picked it up a couple of weeks back.
I will check back to see any news 9/9, or PM me

Got Parts?

Hi everyone,
We need some parts and before we go buy them Damon thought that someone on the list might have some to donate or sell at a reduced price. The car is a '76 Targa

- Door pocket covers, black. (Unwarped.)
- Knee pads, black
- Black antenna, manual*
- Carpet

* Damon can't put the door on until we have an antenna so if someone local has one or can get one to Damon right away he can put the door on. If someone local has an antenna and I can pick it up before Brian and I go up Friday that would be great otherwise we'll just buy one so the car isn't held up.
thanks,
Chris

If it is mineral based gear oil, they do contain sulfur which reacts with O2 to form sufur trioxides - pretty darn reactive, especially with water which then forms sulfuric acid. That will start breaking down the oil even further as well as the additves. If it is synthetic, the antiwear additive could very well be a ZDDP (Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) which can also get pretty rank. Smells like cat piss. Same think happens with engine oil. Good reason to go with a gear oil with a low TAN or an engine oil with a high TBN.

timlooney 09-09-2004 08:36 AM

Yes... gear oil that smells like a cat. Is LubeMaster77 donating oil to the cause? ;)

M.D. Holloway 09-09-2004 08:43 AM

I tell you what, e-mail me your shipping adress and how many quarts you need and I will get you some stuff that blows the Swepco stuff out of the water! You have to let me know what you think of it. In fact, I will sweeten the deal by providing you some flushing oil to get rid of the sins of the past. Just add a little to the sump, run for a few days - drain the mess and add some of the new oil. The flushing oil is completely safe to use in gearboxes and engines, won't harm seals or create any other problems. I presented the technology last year at the Lubrication Excellence Conference with case studies. The stuff is the real deal! Are you looking for some 80W90? Also have 85W140 but I think it would be to thick for the 911 gearbox.

ChrisBennet 09-09-2004 11:02 AM

Hi again, I ordered an antenna and Carl ("EJ11HHF") has donated some door pocket covers. That just leaves knee pads and carpet.. ;-)

Let me know if you need some Gear Oil (80W90 or 85W140 both in quarts) and some wiz bang engine oil. The stuff is the nuts in a bag! Intinal results suggest serious gains in wear resistance, deposit formation resistance, high acid neutrailization and excellent thermal characterics (actually cools a bit better than other oils). It's a synthetic blend but does not promote any increase in seal leaks. I can get you the 20W50 in 2 1/2 gallon pails - sorry, no quarts yet.

What colour carpet you need, I have the tan carpet I removed from my targa.

Todd

ChrisBennet 09-11-2004 09:43 AM

Hi Todd,
We either need a tan or black carpet set. We're changing some of the interior to black (knee pad, door pocket covers) but I don't know for sure about the carpet. Let me talk to Damon, he's got the style sense.

Chris

Originally my interior was tan with brown, as shown below, this will give you an idea of the carpet colour and condition.

Just let me know if you want the old carpet, it is yours for the asking.
