993 teardrop mirrors for 930
Are these a straight bolt-on? Do you keep the motor functional on the drivers' side mirror, or do you lose that if you convert? Anybody know?
|
Straight bolt on, you can buy an adapter harness to make the power mirrors work, Kevin
|
Why though? A 930 is perfect with the square ones

Not as easy as all that .....! I've been attempting it recently on my '89 Turbo look!
Firstly my mirrors arrived in pieces and they are far from easy to put together. Help available on Secondly, the base of the new mirrors doesn't cover the marks left by the old bases so some pretty heavy polishing/T-cutting may be required. Lastly the wiring re-connection is complicated unless you're very handy with a multimeter. The wire colours on my car don't seem to match any information/advice that I've seen on this subject! Still hopefully it will all be worth it in the end....... |
I have a great back issue in Porsche World that shows which wires to cut and splice to make the conversion. Let me know if that is needed.

The Horror! (just kidding guys, actually I love the 964 look with the teardrop mirrors) |
Yeah, I go back and forth on the "keeping the classic look" debate. If you're not careful, you end up with an aesthetic nightmare--a hodge-podge of different styles. Right now, I'm trying to decide whether to go to a 965s tail and do the mirrors, or just stay put.
Lord knows the rest of the car isn't exactly the way it came from the factory ('bout the only thing stock at this point is the case), so I've kind of blown the "orginality" theme anyway.... |

It is not a 930 but... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1084865551.jpg |
Ever think about going with the 935 or Ruf mirrors? I'm filling the holes in my doors, I think they look soooo much better than the aero's or the square ones. If I get ambitious enough I may even try to procure some sort of magnetic bases so they can be interchanged or just left off completely.

For the SCs and Carreras I haven't seen an instalation yet that didn't require a Conversion Relay module. What year is your 930? What color wires are coming from the doors into the mirror?

Cool. Thanks for the pics. I'll check out my wires and think more on it.
One other thing that mattters--do you get as good of a field of vision with the teardrops? |

Tip: A while ago I had asked why my mirrors (not the housing) shook/vibrated. It was bugging me to no end. The answer was to tighten the the motor set screws. I was tempted to cut the screws as it was very hard to totally seat the heads. It will feel as if they are bottoming out but they are not. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1084894470.jpg |

Your car's color scheme -- silver wheels and Carrera stripe -- against the Guards Red is WAY COOL! I may have to do it myself! |
