That rusty old roll pin can be a bear, and then if the clutch arm is rusted on too... Joy!

"I think the bronze bushings make the pedals feel smoother."

- It sounds like this was a comparison between old, worn plastic and new bronze. The real question when you go to replace the bushings is: what is the difference between _new_ plastic ones, and new bronze ones.

Great teamwork yelcab! That is what makes this BB so great....

And so it goes, another P-car on the street

I followed (like everyone else, it seems) the thread that rcecale posted while rebuilding his transmission, and was blown away by the level of support and encouragement that everybody showed during what can't have been an easy project, no matter what anyone says. John Walker (who left a rather cryptic post on this thread - see above) and one or two others especially, but it seemed like all the Pelican-ites had something to offer. This was all going on while yelcab and I exchanged IMs about parts etc. and he quietly went about the business of rebuilding my pedal cluster. For free (although I do owe him a drink).

I had thought for a long time that in this life there are people who do favours, and people who receive favours, and they were not the same people. As someone who always seemed to be doing the favours it was mildly astonishing to come across a community where everyone helps everyone else, unconditionally, just because.

So, here's to you (us?) - Pelican people, there's a touchstone here for the human spirit. And that's not a Disney moment.

Yelcab, in public this time - thank you. As I said before - you're a gentleman and a scholar (btw, did you get the clutch return spring? I don't see it in the pic...).

One last thing - if anyone has any tips on how to get the cluster back in easily they'll be most welcome. Getting it out was a barrel of laughs.

Yup, there are some great people on this board.

Bitmit,

John Walker was wondering if you meant Pelican Parts or a competitor with the same initials.

Bitmit

Yes, I got the clutch return spring and put it in the box sent to you today, along with the old bushings.

You're welcome. I received plenty of favors myself and I'm just giving it back. Good luck installing.

Ahh, the penny drops... JW was referring to (sshhh) Perform*nce Pr*ducts. Duh. Sorry - I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometimes. Anyway, I was talking about our host PP, although I think I can forgive by now :)

Before you put the cluster back into the car, slip a piece of safety, bailing wire, through the roll pin and around the tube. Twist the ends together. This will keep the roll pin in place after the hole wears out a little.

Looks like nice work.

Good luck,
David Duffield

Yelcab, I really would like a bare metal respray on my car - pretty please?

Good work fella, top job, commendable.

IŽll do mine with a bronze bush kit. It is in pieces and re-painted and today IŽll put it back.

I was going to install a zerk (grease) fitting when I did mine years ago, but never got around to it. Anybody have a pic with a fitting installed?
