Need offset recommendation for custom 8" wheel on a narrow body/unflared car
 

How about 8" wheels on the rear of an unflared car? I did a search and found some proof that it is possible.

Its been done before with regular 911 fuchs here

and again with 951 23mm offset phonedials here

Can it be done better with a custom offset 8" wheel?

I know that 7"s are a gamble on the rear of a narrow body, but are still usually very possible. 951 8" fuchs are less possible, but still possible.

Is there a custom offset that would make a 8" wheel more likely than a 8" 951 wheel to fit under the rear wheel well of a narrow body car? If I had a chance to get a custom offset 8" wheel for the rear of a narrow body car, what would you guys recommend?

At this level of "tightness"...I would think the brand/type of tire may have more of an influence than the wheel. Wheel... of course, must still have very accurate backspace and offset dimensions to work properly.

If you go through the various posts either here or someplace else, the tire becomes the "final frontier". Some are square-shouldered and some round. Some 225's are "actually" wider at the section dimension than some 245's, etc....

Sherman, Wil is spot on. I've got three sets of wheels and a number of tires of various brand names of varying sizes of 205/225/245....and they prove this to be true

Your best bet is to decide on the brand of tires you want to run and go to TireRack's web site. They have specification charts on the site for most of the tires they sell. You should be able to find the section width of your tire of choice and work backward to arrive at an offset that will work best for you. I'm sure you are aware of the potential interference in the rear passenger side between the rim/tire and the oil line.

What rims are you thinking of? (e-mail me if you are just researching....)

I would follow marcesq's example in both o/s and tire size selection.

I know that on my old '72 S 215/60x15 on +23.3mm 7x15 burned the paint several inches up into the fender.

Is there any room left between between the tub and the inner part of the tire on a 8" 951 wheel?

the +23.3mm 8 doesn't go as far inboard as a +15mm 9. So, yes, there's still plenty of inboard clearance.
