Polishing Fuchs in Florida?

Guys,

I know Al Reed is the man to go for polishing my Fuchs ( I have a set he did and are just superb). However, I'm looking to refinish 12 wheels for my vintage racecar and 4 for my concours car.

The concours ones I dont mind spending the extra $$$ to ship them to AL but the racing ones I''m not so sure.

So, does anyone now of a reputable shop in Florida who could do this for me.

I tried my damdest with an Eastwood kit and franly did not get too far; no fingertips left, rouge all over the place and a burnt drill.

The race wheels were bead blasted and I'd like to get a polished rim, rough center look perhaps powder coated in clear. These are all 15 x 7.

Look forward to your feedback. Cheers, Juan

I bought a set of badly oxidized Riviera mags for my wifes' 914. I hand sanded them with 220 lightly then hit them with 400 wet soaked with wd40, next came 600 then 1000 grit all wet. After the 1000 wet I hit them lightly with medium grit buffing compound on a 3 inch disc air powered buffer to help remove scratches. final finish came from good ole mothers mag polish on the buffer again. While not good enough for your 911 wheels these turned out really well. My 911 mags are also blacked out. I am going to polish them myself. I will spend alot more time on them. If you want to see before and after pics of my rivieras let me know. On the Fuchs I would probably hand sand clear up to 1500 grit wet. I would only need to start with 600 or 1000 since my wheels are in FAR better condition than hers. I would probably use the polish from eastwoods on mine. I think they have a clay bar type poilsh for this. The big tip here I guess is patience. A good job will take a lot of time. The final product is worth the work and saves you some bucks. there is lot of this stuff we can do ourselves.. My "second" job is in a bodyshop though so I do this stuff every day.

Try Alex Magro (jamagro@juno.com) I think he is in the Sarasota area and is on the board from time to time as 70Fasty, or something like that. I bought a set of polished 16's that he did and they are pretty darn nice. He is a straight arrow and good to deal with too.

Thanks! I spoke to Al Reed today (great guy by the way) and I'm sending him some wheels to work on later this week. More to come. I have (yet) another set I might send to Turbax to see what they can do.

I wrote to them and await their feedback. Later, Juan
