how do you tell real fuchs

How do you tell if fuchs are real?

singpilot 05-18-2004 03:12 PM

The word 'Fuchs' in German means 'Fox'.

Look for the little fox logo next to the part number embossed in the inside spoke area. It is usually covered with 23 years of gunk.

Look at these markings

Also look at the distinctively smooth grain and thin sections of the aluminum, that is a sign of forging. the cast wheels will have a grainy finish and much thicker sections( though usually the outer face is polished smoothly the back won't be)

and the wt. - the inferior wheels have to weigh more because they are not forged.

Then there's the 'P' in a triangle on the OEM wheels. All these mark are small and hidden by lots of grunge - you'll have to clean and inspect carefully.

BTW, I think the spendy R type wheels only have stamped ink digits on them - check recent posts on Early 911 forum to be sure.

I have a size marking in one section and a serial number another but the digits are much larger. The wheels are from a 74. I am still looking for the FOX, but it does not look good. One section looks like the word MAX and some digits.

The little fox is the last thing to show thru when you clean them. In Bill's first picture you can JUST barely see it.

All may not be lost yet.

Maybe the serial # is a Porsche part # ?? As singpilot said, you have to really clean to find the fox. Good luck!
