Ribs from Detroit. I think of Greek food when you talk about that area.

How about Lafyette Coney Island at about 3 a.m., nothing beats that, they still have the weird little bathroom, and Demo still works there! That guy is about 90!

Randy: if you're ever near Chattanooga, there's a place called The Acropolis near Hamilton Place Mall. Excellent authentic Greek food (the owners are old world folks from NYC).

We have some great Lebanese food in Dearborn, too. I drive the 911 on nice days and then take a coworker (or two, if they are small) and we drive the car to lunch. Great combo, excellent food and a drive in the 911!

I haven't been this homesick for Michigan since I left in '79. All the talk about all the great food places.

John,

I left MI in '79 too, then came back in '91. Our families are here, that's the only reason we came back to the rustbelt! The food's good, but it doesn't make up for the 5 months of the year I can't drive the car!

I don't usually get up that way, Joe, but I'll definitely keep it in mind. Used to spend quite a bit of time down in Greektown in Detroit and fell in love with the food years ago.
Have to say though, the best gyro I ever had was at a Greek Festival (I believe they called it a "Genti") in Darwin, Australia. $5.00 a shot, but I just couldn't stop eating them. This was back in 95 and I can still taste them..."Crave them" is probably more accurate!

I get homesick for MI everytime I see a thread like this. Almost moved back a couple months ago but the IT employment fairy came through so I'm here in Dallas for a another year or so. The wife and I plan to buy her parents lake house in Hell in the next 2 years and get our kids back to the clean air and clear skys. I miss having 4 seasons instead of 2 (warm and extremely HOT).

jdowty3,

My wife and I drove the 911 through a tornado last July in Hell, MI. We were in front of the Damsite Inn when the funnel cloud appeared. Pinckney/Chelsea/Dexter/Manchester are all great areas to drive, as the roads are smooth, twisty and relatively lightly traveled.

I was laid off last summer and spend most of July and part of August there. I was missing my SC Cab. My in-laws house is just around the corner from the Damsite Inn on Outer Dr. If you heading in to Hell from Pinckney, just past the Damsite and around the curve on the left is Outer Drive. Actually, by the time you see the road, your almost out of Hell. I remember a couple of great storms but don't recall any tornados. May have been just before we got in MI.
